Game academy is a French school located in Avignon, in Vaucluse, which trains game developers and game artists. Created in 2016 by Mr. Kevin Vivier, Game Academy aims to meet a growing demand for high-performance and modern elements in the video game and serious gaming market.
Today, the school is composed of 6 trainers who each had a unique professional background. Game Academy prepares more than 80 students to work in the video game industry with technologies such as Unreal Engine, Zbrush, Unity, Maya, Substance, Photoshop, Illustrator and Git to name a few. Our programs are therefore organized as follows:
70% theory made up of courses, exercises and tutorials
30% of professional practice by producing games for several weeks in a team made up of artists and programmers as well as trainers acting as project manager and/or producer and/or lead.
To allow the learning of such technologies, Game Academy decided from its creation to think big: a school of more than 1000m² with a large conference room allowing to attend masterclasses, that the students present their projects facing to a professional jury from large companies, traditional drawing rooms, a cafeteria, greenery and rescued animals acting as a small park allowing students to enjoy a relaxation area as well as classrooms with a workstation dedicated to each student during the year. These workstations are equipped with components linked to the technologies taught in class: for the fourth years, we learn unreal engine. So we have machines with AMD Ryzen 3600 processors, an NVIDIA RTX 2060 graphics card, an 860 EVO 500 GB SSD and 32 GB of ram and virtual reality headsets for each without forgetting an xbox series x for being able to do console development.
Game Academy is therefore a school that prioritizes quality over quantity. We are attentive to each feedback and we therefore try to improve ourselves each year in order to meet this growing need that we find in these studios which produce what we all love, making video games.
The school is formed on 2 buildings of 500m2, each class is made up of a maximum of 15 students, in which each student has a PC at his disposal. Each computer is connected in RJ45 to the local servers of the school, in order to facilitate the exchange of files between students but also to recover the resources made available. These waitresses are also accessible from their homes. The school is located on private and fenced land, with its own 3500m2 car park and a green space where rescued goats have been comfortably installed.
Every year, the staff meets to cross-check information about the video game industry. We are rolling out a new school program, or changing certain modules to meet demand. We have 4 months during the summer, to train ourselves on certain technologies, review the program, create exercises...
