Gobelins, L'École de L'Image is a school of visual communication and arts in Paris, with its main location near the Latin Quarter. A consular school funded by the Parisian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it provides several programs at a range of fees. It is best known for the Cinéma Department of Animation, founded in 1975 by Pierre Ayma, who brought the school into the spotlight. It has an international reputation, producing numerous talented individuals and teams hired by the world's leading animation studios, including Disney, Universal, Hanna Barbera, Pixar, DreamWorks and Warner Bros. Its former students include many strip cartoonists and animation artists such as Didier Cassegrain, Cromwell, Jean-François Miniac, and Pierre Coffin. The faculty includes world-class industry leaders such as Michel Bouvet.
Over the years, Gobelins has introduced major innovations in multimedia content, developing products for the web, CD ROM, Interactive DVD, and public installations. The video department, created by Daniel Boullay and Guy Chevalier for the training of adult students, has since 1985 been prominent in the French technical audio-visual landscape. Led by Daniel Desmoulins, the video department allows professionals to create or analyze techniques, keeping current with the rapid evolution of industry technologies. Gobelins also offers instruction in photography and graphic design.
3D Character Animator - Programme in English
This training is intended for self-taught animators or young people who have started a training course in 3D or computer graphics and who wish to improve their skills in order to be specialized in 3D character animation. Supervised by professionals working in renowned 3D animation studios, the programme is built around practical simulation exercises to develop command of directing, movement and acting. This training is provided on the Annecy Campus.
Character animation and animated filmmaking - Bachelor of Arts
Relying on its expertise and to meet the needs of professionals, Gobelins now o ers a new 3-year course aimed at encouraging both the direct entry of young French and English-speaking undergraduate students, as well as direct access to the labor market or the pursuit of studies in Master of Arts in character animation. This new 3-year course enables students to master all traditional and digital animation techniques (2D and 3D), from pre-production to post-production, using professional methods practiced in animation fi lm studios in France and abroad. Team work plays a major role in the pedagogy implemented.
Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking - Master of Arts
This English-language two-year cycle enables students to enter the GOBELINS curriculum for a Master conceived to reach a professional level notably in directing, storytelling and intercultural competence. In addition to exercises in writing, storyboard and complex animation (mixed techniques, interacting characters), students participate in an open-themed end of studies film in conditions that simulate a professional environment.
Animation Preparatory Year (PGA)
The goal of this preparatory class is to experiment with various creative techniques in order to enable you to build your study project, to build up an artistic portfolio and to be able to present it in a constructive way with an adapted vocabulary.
This year will allow you to acquire the basic artistic and technical skills required to be admitted to a course related to animation cinema.
