VanArts is located on four floors in downtown Vancouver. We are steps away from major VFX, video game and animation studios. Lunchrooms are on every floor, there is a rec room with pool table, and our classrooms are secured by ID pass card and door codes.
VanArts was founded in 1995 with Academy-Award winning animator/director Lee Mishkin as its' program director. Recognizing the industry’s need for a skilled and specialized workforce, for 25 years VanArts has offered a variety of highly focused diploma programs designed to prepare students for work in specific areas of the media arts including Visual Effects Production, Game Art & Design, 2D & 3D Character Animation, Professional Photography, Acting for Film & Television, Web Development, and Broadcasting & Online Media.
Thousands of VanArts graduates work around the world in creative industries. Our alumni have won Emmys, Golden Globes, Oscars, Visual Effects Society awards and D.I.C.E. Video Game awards.

Over all programs there is a 92% employment rate within 6 months from graduation.
Harmony/ToonBoom, Houdini and Maya. We are a Houdini certified school. Adobe Creative Cloud is also used.
VR devices and headware (Oculus, Vive), motion capture suit, lighting, cameras, computers, access to use students from our other programs to help with their projects.

Networking & Careers
Classes are from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4:30pm. Students can attend classes in-person at the downtown campus, or if they are enrolled in an online course, via online education software.
A typical class could involve a presentation or lecture from an instructor; working on assignments and projects; receiving feedback from an instructor on your work; one-on-one mentorship; interaction with the other students in your classroom; presentation of your work; networking opportunities; and working on a longer form final project.
VanArts has four terms lasting three months each, with a total of 48 weeks of schooling. There are breaks between our two major intakes (March and September), and during the December holidays.
The school is open past 4:30pm for students to work in the evenings, and also open on weekends. Entry is via ID card.
Following studios hire our graduates: Various studios have recruited from VanArts including Electronic Arts, Capcom, Namco Bandai, iUGO, ILM, MPC, Digital Domain, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Atomic Cartoons, Bardel Animation, Mainframe Animation, Blizzard/Activision, Nickelodeon, Netflix, Microsoft and others. Industry nights happen throughout the year for students to meet with recruiters and professionals.

2D/3D Character Animation
The school's Character Animation diploma program at VanArts places your focus on character animation through body mechanics and performance, and strong foundation training in modeling, lighting, character building and art direction.
We are the go-to school for training in industry-standard softwares MAYA for 3D and Toon Boom's HARMONY for 2D, with students in the 2D stream using modern 19-inch Yiynova tablets.
Animation courses in story, visual language and life drawing support your development as a character animator, all guided by award-winning faculty with experience working at studios such as Disney, Dreamworks and Industrial Light & Magic.
Game Art & Design
The Game Art & Design diploma program is a hybrid of traditional and digital art, right from foundation to specialization. Here you get to focus your craft in creating concept art and assets for the film, game and television industries, with an equal emphasis on art development for mobile gaming and 3D console games.
The instructors in our game design courses are industry leaders who will educate you on best practices. They will prepare you for work in 2D/3D environments, character modeling, lighting, texturing, interface design and concept development. Get valuable feedback from and make connections with guest speakers and industry VIPs.
Visual Effects for Film & Television
VanArts' diploma program in Visual Effects for Film & Television is the leading destination for training in a rapidly growing and booming work force.
We have been recognized by SideFX Software as a certified Houdini Training Partner. In addition to HOUDINI, our Visual Effects program instructs students in other leading industry tools, such as MAYA and NUKE.
As a certified Houdini training program, all Visual Effects students receive a free commercial license of Houdini from SideFX Software ($2,000 value) upon graduation.
