What advice would you give young artists starting their journey?

Just ask yourself why you want to be in this industry. What is your talent? If you feel you are not good enough to achieve your goal now, don't blame yourself. Make a commitment to yourself, to keep growing. You can be slow, but please don't stop, then you will know how amazing you are~ you just need some time!

Why would you recommend young artists join The Rookies?

It is a great place to see all the talented and hard working people. This is a growing community, you want a good companion when you walk on the field.

Nick Ladd

VR Artist @ Studio Syro

What professional projects have you worked on?

Tales From Soda Island - A Groundbreaking VR animated series made in Quill. Namoo - A beautiful poetic VR film that recently made its debut at Sundance.
The Arcadia Games - An upcoming revolutionary VR game

What advice would you give young artists starting their journey?

You don't need to follow art trends and be like everyone else. Find a new medium, find a new niche within the medium.  It's easy to get demotivated and worn down when you're a small fish in a big pond and there are a lot of fish in the art world.

Why would you recommend young artists join The Rookies?

The Rookies was a great opportunity for me to kick-start my career and showcase my art to the world. You don't need to win to learn a lot and meet new artists who will inspire you for life.

Brennan Howell

Environment Artist @ Velan Studios

What professional projects have you worked on?

Mario Kart Live: Home, and Circuit Knockout City

What advice would you give young artists starting their journey?

Try and find a group of artists you can ask for feedback from! Getting feedback on your work, especially while it's in progress, is one of the best ways to take your work to the next levels. On top of that, games are a collaborative process, so knowing how to give and receive feedback is also an important skill for a game artist to have. There are plenty of facebook and discord groups full of game artists ready and willing to help out with advice and critique, no matter how early along someone is on their path as an artist.

Why would you recommend young artists join The Rookies?

One of the most important resources that an artist can have is a community, especially a community full of other artists! The Rookies is not only that, but also a great way to get eyes on your work. You never know who might discover you.
