This week your drill is to create an image about the world of aviation. Then tag it #RookiesWeeklyDrills and #Aviation.

This week we want you to get your fly on! The topic is all about the aviation industry. You could go all out and build an Airbus A380, go old school and build a Spitfire fighter aircraft, or even go a bit left field and build a pushback tug. You could even create a military helmet with xray vision.

To get some feedback on your work-in-progress project before you submit it, head over to Discord channel and chat with other artists having a crack. To see all the Weekly Drill projects just follow this link.

  • Use your favorite art supplies, software and workflow.
  • Only submit work created during this week.
  • Submit as many entries as you want.
  • You can use concept art, models, textures and other assets and include it in your project. However, make sure to credit the artist by linking to their work and explain exactly what you created.
  • You must tag your project with #RookiesWeeklyDrills and #Aviation.
  • Submission open Friday, May 1, 2020  (approx. 10am GMT/UTC)
  • Submission close Friday, May 8, 2020 (approx. 10am GMT/UTC)

Creative Director Justin Mohlman will evaluate entries and select a winner based on quality, creativity, and adherence to the challenge theme.

Create Weekly Drill Project

Weekly Drill - Savoia seaplane
3D recreation of the plane from studio Ghiblis movie Porcorosso

Second Place

#WeeklyDrills 005 - RAF Aviator Goggles
Since I didn’t want to model a whole plane I decided to create these pilot goggles. I used Maya to model, Substance Painter to texture, Arnold to render and Nuke to polish the raw images.

Third Place

Spaceship (Concept by Nar Genc)
Here is a spaceship I modelled and textured from a concept by Nar Genc. I combined the toon shader pass with the semi-realistic beauty pass to create a different style. After this, I created an environment for it.

How many entries can I submit?
As many as you want.

How do I tag my project?
During Step 2 of the project building process, you will see a tag input field in the right column under your project title and description input fields. Note: Do not include  "#" with your tag (eg: #RookiesWeeklyDrills), the tool already handles that for you. See below for example.
