Hi my name is Jonathan Lampal and I was The Rookies (formally known as the CG Student Awards) winner for the Young Guns category back in 2014.
That was for High School students and I was just finishing up High School and getting ready for college, so it was absolutely perfect timing.
I actually found out about the awards on Twitter after someone I followed posted about it and after reading through what it was, I knew I had to give it a try.

Since then I’ve been working at CG Cookie alongside the instructors they’re doing 3d modeling and texturing of environment work and game design, so it’s been a lot of fun.
I definitely love working there because I’m learning a lot every day, so for anyone who’s on the fence I would say absolutely go for it. It definitely opens doors and just beyond the prizes the pressure of putting together a real that I knew would be judged by industry professionals really motivated me to do my best work.
