The One Academy of Communication Design
In 1991, The One Academy of Communication Design was established as a private art college in Malaysia and soon proved its worth producing industry-standard graduates. Our academic strengths lie in the practice of our teaching philosophy “Masters Train Masters”, where we...

The Specifics

BRT Sunway-Setia Jaya is the nearest bus station, it takes less than 5 minutes to reach the station from the college by walking. The bus allows us to travel around Subang area and there’s access to other interchange train stations.

Why did you choose to study here?

The main reason was very simple. When I was 16, I flipped through a digital artbook and was thoroughly amazed. From then on, I decided to seek learning on creating illustrations. I heard about the school because one of my friends’ sister studied at The One Academy. I also knew that the college provided professional training for students. Another reason for my choice, is that the location of the college is nearer to where I stay compared to other schools available.

The Scene

The first thing you see when you walk outside your school?

The first thing one will see as they walk out of the campus is a water fountain and a drop-off zone. I think the drop-off zone is great as it allows dropping off and picking up students when it’s raining.

The closest shop to outside your school is:

The college is surrounded by shops on the ground floor. There are many convenience stores and restaurants around.

Your school is great, but you wouldn't mind a bit less:

Personally, the new campus of The One Academy is great. However, as the number of students increase, the lifts in college require regular maintenance as well - I wouldn't mind them being out of service less!

The unofficial uniform of your school is:

All new students get a T-shirt upon admission and they change the designs every few years.

A mandatory stop for anyone new to your city:

The school is located in the happening Subang area, where Sunway Pyramid is - the most well-known mall to visit. Next to it is the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park, where the 1st Nickelodeon Theme Park in Asia is located.

A common myth about your school is:

TOA stands for “Tons of Assignments” instead of “The One Academy”.

A massive night out for students at your school is likely to be:

There will be parties organized by groups of students whenever there are special events like Halloween Night.

The Superlatives

You won’t find a better place to eat than at:

SS15 is one of the best places to visit in Subang when talking about food, there is a tonne of food variety there. Filling up your stomach there won’t be a problem, but you’ll need to find a parking spot first.

The strangest thing you’ve ever seen at your school is:

Witnessing the Fashion Design’s graduation exhibition is fun yet bizarre at the same time. The appearances feel strange to me, but I feel the creativity when looking into the designs.

One thing you’d never change about your school is:

The facilities are quite sufficient for students in college, but I wouldn’t mind it if they can be upgraded for sure!

But one thing you wouldn’t mind seeing changed is:

I really wish there will be more public transport routes available around the college area, sometimes it just takes too long to travel to school.

Someone gives you $1M to pimp out your school. You use it to:

Back then before moving to the new campus, the college’s gallery was situated in a separate block instead of on the same floor as the lobby now. I think I would like to use the money to create a bigger and more organised space to display the artwork, impressing people at first glance as they enter the gallery!
