Escape occupies the third floor of the Pearson building in High Holborn in Central London. It consists of ten computer labs which vary in size and purpose, depending whether they are purposed for Undergraduate courses or short more specialist offers. Generally rooms are kitted out with 20 workstations. There are breakout alcoves (suitable for independent studying and chats), and a communal kitchen with free tea and a coffee machine. There is a glass partitioned staff room meaning staff are available outside of teaching hours. Each course cohort has a tutor and a Studio Assistant.
Facilities are deliberately not open 24/7, but rather 8.30am-10pm, although weekend access is available. A Student Services department looks after issues around wellbeing and finance. Being part of Pearson College London means we can leverage economies of scale in terms of student support and access to business workshops and talent development through the resident Centre for Industry Engagement (CIE).
As staff are recruited from the industry and as they retain those links they are always the first to hear of new processes and techniques. In 2020 one of our senior VFX staff even joined ILM as Senior Trainer. Tutors have access to common training material and VPN access to software at home. Recent purchase of a range of training assets have enabled several staff to sharpen up and prioritise their learning in Houdini.
100% of our 2019 graduating animation class now have their names attached to an award-winning film project and have their own entry at the IMDB - an important milestone in any film career. For details of employment, check out the alumni pages on their website.

•Michael Davies, Animation Programme leader
In November 2019, we had our Graduation Ceremony for our first ever Undergraduates on our Animation, VFX and Games Programmes. The event was high with emotion as this was a new event for Escape Studios, and the students were incredibly excited to finally finish their academic journeys. Something that was a very unexpected outcome of the day was just how excited the students were about the work they had been doing during the last few months since I had seen them last. We have Production Assistants at Sony Playstation, Junior Animators creating magic dragons for John Lewis, Adverts with Untold VFX, and animating Cats at MPC! Students who had been so nervous about their futures were shouting for joy that in just a few months, they were already working and making a difference in the industries that they worked so hard to join

VFX: In terms of VFX, many partners stand out. DNEGs Paul Franklin gave students a pep talk though lockdown, and Framestore’s Head of Global talent had a weekly show for Escape students. Framestore, DNeg, MPC, The Mill, Cinesite and ILM have all been inviolved at several levels- presentations, advice, mentorship, panel discussions and assessments.
Here's a link to a few success stories:

Rare, Epic, Playground and Rebellion have also been supportive as mentors, and State of Play, Media Molecule and Mike Bithell Games have also joined us at the VFX Festival.
Animation: Our biggest supporters have been Blue Zoo and Jellyfish for student mentoring, and our events, such as 'An Evening with' and the VFX Festival. The Third Floor (also a VFX fest participant), Passion and Fudge Animation have recently joined us as mentors.
