12 Unreal Engine Sci-fi Projects to inspire your next 3D creation
Everyone loves a bit of sci-fi action and it's a right-of-passage for digital artists to create spacely worlds that have not been seen before. Throw into the mix a bit of Unreal Engine, and before you know it you'll be running around or flying your own sci-fi creation.
Everyone loves a bit of sci-fi action and it's a right-of-passage for digital artists to create spacely worlds that have not been seen before. Throw into the mix a bit of Unreal Engine, and before you know it you'll be running around or flying your own sci-fi creation. We recently dug around the projects submitted to The Rookies and nominated the following 12 projects as our favourite Sci-fi creations to date.
This posts isn't sponsored by Unreal, but if you want to create sci-fi worlds and transportation that is found in these projects, then this is the software you will need.
A game ready sci-fi environment I worked in, my objective of this project was practised workflow with Unreal, using decals, trim sheets, lighting and modular props/building. I used 3ds Max for modeling and the material/ textures created in Substance Painter/Photoshop, rendered in UE4.
This old sci-fi spaceship was my first experience with UE4. The objective was to create complexity using as few pieces as possible, so several of them are re-used from different angles. I tried to apply my style, but it was inspired by the science fiction scenes of Troy Perry.
In the not so distant future, the discovery and integration of alien life on the planet has forced cities to be built under the sea. Atlantia is an art-deco inspired museum residing in the Seafoam capital. This was my first dive into Unreal Engine and building a real-time environment from scratch.
This was a class assignment I created in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and set up in Unreal Engine 4. The purpose of the assignment was to look at a Sci-Fi reference photo of an environment, and create it in 3D. The tarps for the fuel cells were created in Zbrush utilizing the gravity cloth sim.
I have used some decals to vary the roughness information and add dirt in certain places. Baked lights and lightmaps adjusted correctly. Actually I am studying a master about 3D modeling for Games AAA on FloridaReplay (http://www.floridareplay.com/) I hope you like it, and any feedback is welcome!
This is an assignment I am working on for a class at SCAD. I'm focusing on the story telling in this level : " The person who lives in this bedroom is an alien creature biologist. he likes music, queen is his favorite band. But one of the creatures escaped from the container, and things got out of control.
The last couple of months I've been working on the biggest project I've made so far, and I'm really happy to announce that it's finally done, I'm really happy with the end result and even though I know there's still a lot to learn and a lot to get better at, this is a process I've enjoyed a lot so
